It was a successful journey for both Sony and Cameron Diaz with Bad Teacher and now a new collaboration is in the making between the duo. Cameron will play the character of Miss Hannigan in the remake of Annie which the studio is producing under Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment banner.

The role was vacated by Sandra Bullock and Diaz has been signed up to fill in the vacancy. Hannigan is a cruel person who runs the orphanage where Annie and her friends reside. In the original 1982 film the role was made famous by Carol Burnett. Hence Sony was on a hunt for such an actress who is quite familiar with comedy roles and enjoys an international appeal. Diaz completely suits their criterion, who has hits like There's Something About Mary and Charlie's Angels in her success records.
