Actor Chris Pine has been approached to essay the role of Scottish King Robert the Bruce in period drama 'Outlaw King'. The movie will also feature Ben Foster. Director David Mackenzie, who has earlier directed Pine's 'Hell or High Water', will be helming the movie from the script that he is writing.

The character Bruce first appeared as the Scottish royal in actor-filmmaker Mel Gibson's ‘Braveheart’. In ‘Braveheart’, Bruce betrayed William Wallace and allowed the British to capture the rebel leader. Thereafter, he fought with the British to free Scotland from their rule following Wallace's death.

According to reports, the movie will not only show brutal battle scenes but will also show a love story between the king and his queen Elizabeth de Burgh, the daughter of an England-friendly Irish noble, who supports King Robert to throw out the British from his land.  Ben Foster will be seen playing the role of James Douglas, a knight who became the king’s most trusted adviser. Sigma Films’ Gillian Berrie is producing the film along with Anonymous Content’s Richard Brown and Steve Golin. The flick will start rolling sometime in August this year in Scotland.
