Suicide Squad’s Joker, Jared Leto, will be making his directorial debut with Paramount’s crime thriller ‘77’. The Academy Award winning actor will be working off a screenplay written by David Mathews. The original screenplay was written by author James Ellroy who is known for his crime fiction novel ‘L.A. Confidential’.

The movie is set in 1974 Los Angeles and focuses on two police officers who are working on two cases, investigating the brutal murder of a fellow officer and bringing back kidnapped heiress Patty Hearst. They discover a dark and violent conspiracy along with shocking amounts of corruption. While this is the first time Leto will be helming a feature film, he is not new to the director’s chair. Back in 2012, he directed the documentary feature ‘Artifact’ and the documentary series ‘Great Wide Open’, ‘Into The Wild’ and ‘Beyond the Horizon’.

‘77’ will be produced by Dick Wolf and Tony Ganz of Wolf Films, as well as, Leto. The Dallas Buyers club actor was last seen in 'Suicide Squad' which hit theatres in August last year. He will next be seen in ‘Blade Runner 2049’ which will be released on October 6.
