Deadpool Claims Biggest R-Rated Opening Title

Ryan Reynolds starrer Deadpool has completely lived up to the hype that preceded the release of the movie. It is now the biggest opening for an R-rated movie with $135 million over the first three days. The previous record holder for biggest R-rated film was Fifty Shades of Grey with its $85.2 million. Deadpool has grossed $260 million worldwide.

Kung Fu Panda 3 follows Deadpool’s lead with its $19 million, running on its third weekend. The animated flick has now pooled in $256 million worldwide. Released alongside Deadpool was How to Be Single and Zoolander 2. The former raked in $18.7 million over the weekend with the latter earning $15.6 million. Zoolander 2 is the sequel to the hit Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller starrer that was released back in 2001.

The Revenant still maintains its spot in the top five with $6.9 million. The movie has been successfully running for 8 weeks and has pooled in $361 million worldwide. The Revenant was made over a budget of $135 million.
