Disney opts for Lily James to step into Cinderella’s glass slippers

A dream is about to come true for Lily ‘Lady Rose McClare’James ofDownton Abbeyfame as she has been roped in by Disney to play Cinderella in Kenneth Branagh’s big-screen adaptation of the classic taleCinderella. The role of the famous evil stepmother will be played by Golden Globes winner Cate Blanchett.

James is also gearing up to reprise her Lady Rose McClare’s character once again in the fourth season ofDownton Abbey. Prior to this film project, Lily starred inWrath of the Titansand the 2012 filmFast Girls. Earlier it was heard that the makers ofCinderellawere in a mind to sign up Emma Watson for the title character but the deal was never finalised.

Following the huge success of Johnny Depp-starrerAlice in Wonderland’s big-screen adaptation,Disney was thinking about theCinderellaproject since May 2010.
