Elysium eyeing a $35-$40 million in 3 days

The North American box-office will go through one more jam-packed weekend with four new releases in the pipeline. While Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters and We're the Millers open today, Elysium and Planes will join the club on Friday. Matt Damon’s Elysium, one of the most-anticipated releases of this year, is aiming at a three-day collection of $35 million to $40 million.

To talk about the other releases, Sea of Monsters caters to the teenagers mostly while Planes targets the family audience. On the other hand, while Millers is expected to be doing good among female audience it can also lure away the male viewers from Elysium. The main focus of this week is Elysium which has been betted upon by Sony and Media Rights Capital on its predicted numbers. The studio, which has been facing a trying time from shareholder activist Daniel Loeb, needs to recover from its monetary crisis as soon as possible and the dystopian sci-fi epic is viewed as the trump card in the game.
