    On January 29th, the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards were held in Los Angeles, California. The event honored several celebrities for the achievements in the film industry and their performance on screen. This year, Emma Stone won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in the musical ‘La La Land’. The movie has been directed by Damien Chazelle and stars Ryan Gosling as the male lead.

    This was a great achievement for Emma as she was up against great actors like Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Natalie Portman. In her speech, she spoke about the current state of the country and said, “We’re in a really tricky time in the world in our country, and things are really inexcusable, and scary and need action. I’m so grateful to be part of a group of people that cares and want to reflect things back to society”.

    Emma also thanked the director and her co-star for making the film possible. In the musical, the 28-year-old plays an aspiring actress while Ryan plays a jazz pianist. Their relationship is put to the test as their efforts to achieve their dreams put them in tough positions, which threaten their love affair. ‘La La Land’, which was developed on a budget of just $30 million has earned more than $223 million worldwide, since its release on December 9.
