Variety has reported that Sony is looking at Don’t Breathe director, Fede Alvarez, to be at the helm of affairs for a sequel to ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’. The follow-up to the 2011 Oscar-winning movie will be titled ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’. The original was directed by David Fincher.

While the original was based on Stieg Larsson’s book, the new project will be based on David Lagercrantz’s novel by the same name. David took over the responsibility of writing the series after Stieg passed away. ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’ centres on Lizbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist who were played by Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in the original.

Currently, whether or not the actors from the original will return is a mystery. Steven Knight will be writing the screenplay with Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon, Ole Sondberg and Soren Staermose attached as producers. Sony acquired the rights for the cinematic adaptation back in 2015 and has been a top priority for the studio ever since. There is no release date for the project as of yet.
