    February 28 marked the night of the 88th Academy Awards. The Oscar presentation was broadcasted in 225 countries and was an amazing moment for all the actors and especially Leonardo DiCaprio. The actor, after several nominations, won the Best Performance by an actor in a leading role for The Revenant.Leo also chose to use his time on stage to make people aware about the real climate change problem.

    The Best Motion Picture of the year award was given to the Tom McCarthy directorial, Spotlight. The 2015 film stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams and Liev Schreiber. Among the nominations were movies like The Martian, The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Big Short and others. Alejandro G. Iñárritu was given the Achievement In Directing for The Revenant. The Best Performance by an actress in a leading role was bagged by Brie Larson for Room.

    Bridge of Spies actor Mark Rylance was awarded with Best Performance by an actor in a supporting role while the female counterpart of the award was claimed by Alicia Vikander for her role in The Danish Girl. The Best Adapted Screenplay award was given to The Big Short. Charles Randolph and Adam McKay have written the screenplay for the film.

    Spotlight was bagged the Best Original Screenplay award. Son of Saul was given the Best Foreign Language film of the year award while Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen’s Inside Out was named the Best Animated Feature Film of the year. The Achievement in Production Design, Costume Design, Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing awards were all bagged by Mad Max: Fury Road. The Revenant received the Achievement In Cinematography award. Amy Winehouse’s biopic Amy won the Best Documentary Feature award. The Best Original Score was awarded to Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. The music for the film was composed by Ennio Morricone. Spectre’s theme song Writing’s On The Wall by Jimmy Napes and Sam Smith was the Best Original Song and was awarded with Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures.

    The Achievement in Visual Effects award was given to Ex Machina which has been directed by Alex Garland. A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness was the Best Short Budget Documentary. Stutterer claimed the Best Live Action Short Film award with Bear Story claiming the Best Animated Short Film award.
