Could This Person Be Jon Snow's Father?

Could This Person Be Jon Snow's Father?

Eagle-eyed Game of Thrones fans claim to have uncovered a great secret. Not only will Jon Snow’s rumoured father, Rhaegar Targaryen, appear in the show’s ongoing season 7, fans have also discovered who’ll play him.

Rhaegar died before the events of the show, and has only ever been mentioned in passing. But a popular fan theory suggests that he is Jon Snow’s biological father. In season 6, we saw a flashback scene in which Ned Stark’s sister, Lyanna, gave birth to Jon in the Tower of Joy. She made Ned promise to take care of the child as his own. Rhaegar never made an appearance.

Jon Snow would go on to become the King of the North, but has always been regarded as Ned Stark’s bastard son.

Now, a Reddit post (via NME) suggests compelling evidence that seems to have uncovered an important plot point in one of the show’s upcoming episodes. British actor Wilf Scolding will play Rhaegar in a flashback wedding scene, the post speculates. The clues are as follows: Aisling Franciosi, the actor who played Lyanna in the season 6 flashback, followed Scolding on Twitter while the show was filming in September 2016. Wilf followed her back, in addition to following the official GoT account, and Liam Cunningham, who plays the Onion Knight on the show.

The post also spots the resemblance between Scolding and author George RR Martin’s description of the character - tall, strong, with dark eyes.

With only three episodes left in the show’s penultimate season, we’ll have to wait and see if this bit of sleuthing was accurate.
