We as an audience may have liked watching ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Hellboy 2’, but the fact remains the same, both films couldn’t cover its production cost and this proved to be an expensive affair for the producers. The director of both films Guillermo Del Toro has confirmed that ‘Hellboy 3’ will not happen since it cannot be financed.

The director feels that making a project like Hellboy would require a lot of budget which unfortunately isn’t available. A leading website quoted him as saying “Creatively, I would love to make it. Creatively.” But it is proven almost impossible to finance. Not from my side, but from the studio side. If I was a multimillionaire, I would finance it myself, but I spend all my money on rubber monsters”. The second of the Hellboy series titled Hellboy 2: The Golden Army earned a respectable figure of 76 million dollars but the tally was still 10 million short of the production cost. Similarly, Hellboy earned 60 million dollars not being able to recover the 66 million dollar production cost. Del Toro said that he even has a plot for the next instalment of the series hoping it would materialize someday. “He has to become the best of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being. It's a very interesting ending to the series, but I don't think it will happen” said the director.

Meanwhile, he’s busy with his next thriller ‘Crimson Peak’ that will release in October next year. The sequel to ‘Pacific Rim’ is also keeping him busy. His new FX show, ‘The Strain’ premiered this Sunday.
