During this weekend of the holiday season full of festivities, movie-lovers have enough options to enjoy their time inside the movie theatres with eight new releases. The new releases include Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Ben Stiller’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Keanu Reeves’ 47 Ronin. But surpassing all, Warner Bros.’ The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is all set to be the box-office champion with a projected 5-day gross of $40 million at the domestic front.

Among the new entries the most prospective project seems to be The Wolf of Wall Street which is getting released at more than 2,500 stateside locations by Paramount Pictures. In five days the film is expected to earn around $30 million while the opening day may bring in around $7 million. Meanwhile, Walter Mitty and Grudge Match, starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone, are set to bring in a doomsday for Universal’s 47 Ronin, which doesn’t seem to be crossing $10 million between Friday to Sunday.

Justin Bieber’s second concert documentary Believe is also opening today and this would again give a tough chase to 47 Ronin among the teenagers. Sony Pictures Classics’ The Invisible Woman and action-drama Lone Survivor are having a limited release, though. Weinstein Co.’s Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom will be expanded to 975 locations and August: Osage County will also hit five theatres this Friday. Among the new entries, the most likely winner is Paramount’s Wolf of Wall Street because of the power of Scorsese and screen presence of Leonardo DiCaprio, though its nearly three-hour length limits the number of shows each day.
