In a post to the newsletter Lenny, actress Jennifer Lawrence shared her thoughts on the inequality in getting paid that existed in the industry. The leaked Sony emails, last year, revealed that the actress was paid less than her male co-stars in American Hustle. She is currently the highest paid actress and feels that she did not tackle the issue earlier out of fear of being called spoiled.

She said, “I would be lying if I didn’t say there was an element of wanting to be liked that influenced my decision to close the deal without a real fight. At the time, that seemed like a fine idea, until I saw the payroll on the Internet and realised every man I was working with definitely didn’t worry about being ‘difficult’ or ‘spoiled’” She added, “I’m over trying to find the ‘adorable’ way to state my opinion and still be likable! F*ck that. I don’t think I’ve ever worked for a man in charge who spent time contemplating what angle he should use to have his voice heard. It’s just heard”.

The Hunger Games star won an Oscar for her 2012 film Silver Linings Playbook. According to Forbes magazine, she is at the top of the list of best-paid actresses at $52 million dollars. On the other hand, Robert Downey Jr., the best-paid male actor, sits at the top with $80 million.
