Jurassic World tops weekend box office again

Universal’s Jurassic World has continued to dominate the box office. Jurassic World snapped up $102 million (dropping 51% from last week) for Universal this weekend, pulling in a total of $398.2 million in North America and shattering U.S. and global opening records, estimates showed Sunday.

Jurassic World is also on road to reach the $1 billion mark in the next couple of days, the fastest film to do so. Once it reaches that point, it will be the third film of 2015 to accomplish that goal.

Jurassic World also became only the second movie ever to bring in $100 million at the U.S. box office in two separate weekends, and its global total is now over $950 million.

On no. 2nd spot, Pixar’s Inside Out made $91 million, the second-best opening for a Pixar film behind Toy Story 3’s $110.3 million in 2010. "There was a critical mass building of people saying 'wow it's so original, it's Pixar doing what Pixar does best,'" said Disney's distribution chief Dave Hollis. "That critical mass tipped over into the consumer mindset."

Spy pulled in another $10.5 million, bringing its impressive domestic total to $74 million, while San Andreas added $8.2 million to its now $132 million haul.
