London Film Festival To Open With Andy Serkis’ 'Breathe'

Andy Serkis’ debut directorial film 'Breathe' will be the opening film at the 61st London Film Festival. The movie is based on true story of a man named Robin Cavendish, who was diagnosed with polio at the age of 28 while he was in Kenya. The disease made him paralysed and he was given only three months to survive. Going against everyone, his wife, Diane, brought him home from hospital and encouraged him to lead a long and fulfilled life.

Cavendish became advocate for the rights of disabled people. He died in 1994 at the age of 64. The flick stars Andrew Garfield as Robin Cavendish, while the role of his wife Diane is essayed by Claire Foy.

The film is produced by Cavendish’s son Jonathan and Serkis through their banner Imaginarium. The movie will have its European premiere and the London Film Festival on October 4, 2017 at the Odeon Leicester Square. “‘Breathe’ is a deeply personal story to all of us at The Imaginarium, and to have the European premiere of my directorial debut in London, my hometown, is beyond my wildest dreams,” Serkis said.

The London Film Festival will take place from October 4 to October 15.
