The Martian Tops, Pan Flops

The spot for worst debuts this year was previously shared by The Fantastic Four and Tomorrowland and it looks like Pan will be joining them as well. With a mere $15.5 million opening, Pan turned out to be a huge disappointment for Warner Bros. as they invested $150 million in developing the movie. Ridley Scott however takes the crown as The Martian retains its top spot at the domestic box office with $37 million.

Hotel Transylvania 2 claims the second spot with its $20 million running on its third week. The movie performed quite well as it has now gathered more than $207 million worldwide. Pan comes in third with its $15 million on the opening weekend. The sales for Pan might pick up in the near future but as of now, the movie has not performed as expected.

Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway starrer The Intern collected $8 million running on its third week and grabbed the fourth spot on the top five list. Four weeks in, Sicario makes it to the top five again with $7.3 million. The Intern has accumulated $49 million whereas Sicario has grossed $26 million.
