The delay in the project has been announced by Constantin Film without giving any hint to when the movie may resume in future. The first film, based on Cassandra Clare`s bestseller, could gross only USD 58 million worldwide since its August opening. Martin Moszkowicz from Constantin Film said in a statement, "Pushing back the start of production of `City Of Ashes` was a decision we did not take lightly. But after speaking with all of our partners on the creative and distribution side, it was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place.” The sequel was announced before the release of the first part with plans to launch a franchise similar to The Hunger Games and Harry Potter. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones starred Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Robert Sheehan, Lena Headey and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
