Nowadays Film Studios Are Only About Making Money: Ben Stiller

Nowadays Film Studios Are Only About Making Money: Ben Stiller

At the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival, Ben Stiller spoke about the ongoing controversy around friction between traditional studios and streaming services like Netflix. He said that these days, film studios are avoiding interesting films based on creativity and are just focused on making money.  Making money has become more important than creativity.

He said, "I don't know why the studios have become so adverse to making interesting films and taking chances. I guess it's about money. These studios are owned by big conglomerates and they're not independent studios making films. They have a huge profit margin, so they make movies that can make a lot of money. Unfortunately, that means the really good interesting movies aren't getting made".

The 51-year-old actor said that the studios should blame themselves if they are not happy with Netflix making 'inroads on their territory'. The cast of 'The Meyerowitz Stories' was present at the festival. The comedy-drama film helmed and written by Noah Baumbach will compete for the Palme d'Or - the highest prize awarded at the festival.
