Nutritionist: Matthew McConaughey’s Weight Gain For ‘Gold’ Posed A Big Health Risk

Matthew McConaughey is known for his dedication and effort that he puts in towards every single role. He is known for going through a complete makeover to suit the role and his latest look is no exception. In the recently released film ‘Gold’, the actor plays an overweight, middle-aged wanna-be prospector. For this, Matthew gained nearly 50 pounds!

Lisa De Fazio, who is a Registered Dietitian & Nutritionist spoke with HollywoodLife.com and explained that gaining so much weight puts a lot of stress on the organs. “Gaining and losing large amounts of weight stresses all organs of the body and can lead to a heart attack. Binging on burgers and beer is not the way to gain for a role! All of that fat, salt, and cholesterol clogs arteries!”, said Lisa De Fazio.

The actor previously shared that he had a lot of fun gaining that extra weight for the film. He consumed two or three burgers a day along with a beer and bread, right before bed. Lisa added that Matthew should have implied a healthier way of gaining weight and consulted with a dietitian first. She also said that the way he loses this extra weight is also important. Unlike what he did with ‘Dallas Buyers Club’, where he played a dying AIDS patient, he needs to be careful about the health risks involved.

Gold has been directed by Stephen Gaghan and hit theatres on January 27.
