    Once Again, Hidden Figures Atop Weekend Box Office List

    Theodore Melfi’s ‘Hidden Figures’ has once again claimed the top spot at the weekend box office list with its $20 million weekend. The movie saw its fourth weekend after a limited release on December 25 and has pooled in $54.8 million domestically. Hidden Figures stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae and Kirsten Dunst. The movie has been based on a true story of a team of African-American women who provided important mathematical data for NASA’s first successful space missions.

    Stepping away from the trend of movies these days, the musical, ‘La La Land’, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone brought in another $14 million on its sixth weekend. The Damien Chazelle directorial has grossed more than $128 million worldwide. Universal’s animated flick ‘Sing’ saw its fourth weekend bringing in $13.8 million, sending its worldwide earnings to $397 million. The characters in the flick have been voiced by Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane and others.

    ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, a spin-off to the epic Star Wars franchise earned a close $13.7 million on its fifth weekend. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the movie has become a huge success with over $979 million worldwide. Stacy Title’s ‘The Bye Bye Man’ saw an opening of $14.6 million worldwide. It stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Faye Dunaway and Douglas Smith.
