    Production Begins For Pacific Rim Sequel

    Finally, after several snags and development issues, the production for the sequel to the 2013 film, ‘Pacific Rim’, has begun. Actor John Boyega, who is present in the sequel, took to Instagram and shared an image revealing that the production has begun and also confirming the title as ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’. The movie is scheduled for a 2018 release.


    The original film starred Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day. This time around, the cast will include Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tian and Levi Meaden along with John. The Force Awakens actor will play the role of Idris Elba’s character’s son. While the original was directed by Guillermo del Toro, the sequel will be helmed by Steven S. DeKnight.

    Derek Connolly has written the script for the project which is being produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro. ‘Pacific Rim: Maelstrom’ will hit the screens on February 23, 2018. The original was quite a success at the box office, amassing $411 million worldwide.
