Hollywood actress cum producer Reese Witherspoon has recently criticized the Hollywood film industry for gender discrimination. The actress said that big studios are not interested in making films with 'female-driven material'. The actress shared her experience during the time she was finding distributors for her film.

The actress said, “I've also had studio heads say to me, 'We don't want to make biopics about women,' or more simply, We're not interested in female-driven material”. However, after the Book hit number one on the list of best sellers, it was a different scenario for her. The 41-year-old actor recalled speaking to Mindy Kaling when she asked her about being exhausted for creating her own roles in the industry and talking about racism.

She said, “I feel like a jerk for asking that; I used to have parts that just showed up for me. I can't imagine how hard it is to write your own parts and simultaneously have to change people's perceptions of what a woman of colour is in today's society”. Further, Hollywood actors Jeesica Chastain, Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis and Emma Watson, among others have recently spoken up about facing discrimination in the industry.
