    ‘San Andreas’ tops box office with $53.2 million collection

    Dwayne Johnson has once again proved that he is amongst the top stars of Hollywood. Like 2013, The Rock continued the trend of topping international box office draw. His lead role in Warner Bros’ ‘San Andreas’ has made the flick mint $53.2 million, way more than what was expected. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the movie dominates the market.

    The disaster based movie managed to outperformed in earthquake prone states, such as California and Mexico.  The chief of Warner Bros. distribution Dan Fellman, exclaimed about the collection of movie, saying, “Dwayne Johnson is a major movie star and he’s really coming into his own at the moment and we just happen to have him at the right time. San Andreas is his biggest opening as a solo star, and the film is from original material”.

    Second on the list was Elizabeth Banks’s ‘Pitch Perfect 2’. In its third week, the musical comedy film minted $14.8 million in the weekend. Next on the list was ‘Tomorrowland’ ($13.8 million), ’Mad Max: Fury Road’ ($13.6 million), ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ ($10.9 million), ‘Aloha’($10 million), ’Poltergeist’ ($7.8 million), ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’ ($1.4 million), ‘Hot Pursuit’ ($1.4 million),  and ‘Home’ ($1.2 million) collection over the weekend.
