Sofia Coppola in negotiations to helm The Little Mermaid

Oscar achiever Sofia Coppola is in talks to direct a new live-action feature film The Little Mermaid, an adaptation of a classic fairytale of same name by Hans Christian Anderson. The film to be made under Universal Pictures’ banner is in pre-production stage and will summarize the story of a mermaid, who wants to live on land after falling in love a human.

The project produced by Working Title, is being rewritten by Caroline Thompson of Edward Scissorhands fame. Previous script was written by Fifty Shades of Grey writer Kelly Marcel and Shame writer Abi Morgan. Emma Watson is rumoured to be attached to the project for the role of Ariel but it is not confirmed yet. More developments on the same are yet to be discovered. Sofia previously directed Lost in Translation, The Bling Ring and few more.
