Fans will have to pass the time much longer for the third instalment in the Maze Runner franchise. The release date for ‘Maze Runner: The Death Cure’ has been pushed nearly a year to January 12, 2018. The movie was originally slated for release on February 17, 2017, but star Dylan O’Brien suffered severe injuries during an on-set accident in March, which shut production down.

Dylan O’Brien was working on the film in Canada when a mishap involving a vehicle sent him to the hospital where he was treated for several broken bones. As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, sources said O’Brien was in a harness on top of a moving vehicle when he was pulled off the vehicle unexpectedly and hit by another vehicle.

O'Brien plays Thomas in The Maze Runner movies, which are based on the James Dashner series of books. The first two movies, The Maze Runner and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, earned a combined $660 million at the box office. Entertainment Weekly said it is, for now, unclear when production will resume.
