Universal Acquires Felicity Jones’ Swan Lake Movie Project Rights

According to recent reports, Universal has acquired the rights to a yet-to-be titled film, which is based on the ballet Swan Lake having Felicity Jones in the star cast. Several studios have been in the race of winning the rights. The pitch, from Kristina Lauren Anderson (Catherine the Great), will be directed by Luca Guadagnino.

Erik Baiers will oversee the project for Universal. Swan Lake is likely the world’s most famous ballet. It was composed as a ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It follows a princess turned into a swan by the curse of an evil sorcerer. First performed by Russia’s Bolshoi Ballet in 1877, it was penned during the mid-1870s.

Reportedly, the movie will not involve any ballet. The project will be produced by Mandeville Films and represented by WME. On a related note, Jones starred in Star Wars: Rogue One as Jyn Erso. She was also seen in A Monster Calls and in Inferno opposite Tom Hanks. The British actress has also received an Oscar nomination for her work in The Theory of Everything.
