Channing Tatum will be seen starring in the big screen adaptation of Joe Haldeman’s The Forever War. Warner Bros. and Sony were engaged in an intense battle to land the project. Warner Bros. won the bidding war late on Thursday, reported by TheWrap.

A number of studios were in the running to land the project and were willing to pay huge amounts to get the rights for the film. But Warner Bros. prevailed and won the bidding battle. The movie will be produced by Roy Lee along with Channing Tatum and his Free Association execs as well as Film 360. The script for the film will be written by Jon Spaihts and ace director Ridley Scott will be handed the responsibility to direct the film.

The book written by Joe Haldeman, focuses on a young man who gets enlisted into the military during a war against an alien species named the Taurans. The man rises up the ranks quickly and survives many battles, but travelling through space he suffers time-warping effects. This causes him to age normally while Earth spins centuries.
