‘Manhole’ Bags Best Film Award

    ‘Manhole’ Bags Best Film Award

Vidhu Vincent’s ‘Manhole’, a ferocious pragmatic documentation of manual scavenging in the state, has brought laurels to the state. The film won both the best film and the award for the best director at the 47th State Film Awards. The jury, which was led by cinematographer and director A.K. Bir, ignored conventional films. ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ was the only commercial film that bagged an award for best script for Shyam Pushkaran.

Dr Biju’s film, did not win top awards, but managed some of the top technical awards; best cinematographer (M J Radhakrishnan), best sync sound (Jayadevan Chakkadath), best sound mixing (Pramod Thomas), best sound design (Jayadevan Chakkadath), and best colorist (Henroi Messia). ‘Kammattipadam’ bagged an award for best editor (B Ajith Kumar) and best art director (Gokuldas A V/S Nagaraj). Vinod Mankara’s musical ‘Kambhoji’ bagged almost all the music awards.

‘Ottayal Patha’, helmed by brothers Santhosh and Satish Babusenan, was declared the second best film. Fascinatingly, the film was not nominated for any category at the last IFFK. ‘Manhole’ and Dr Biju’s ‘Kaadu Poookkunna Neram’ were the two Malayalam films competing in IFFK. A.K. Kaladharan, who essayed the role of an altruistic father in ‘Ottayal Patha’, was specially lauded by the jury. Desimartini extends their heartiest congratulations to the crew of Manhole.
