There are at least 20 notable films that are destined to set the Box Office on fire in 2018. However, there are five larger than life films that would definitely stand out amongst the crowd. These are the films which are either period affairs or boast of a futuristic set up. What is also common in these films is the fact that there would be VFX galore and most importantly they would all make for big screen entertainment that can be enjoyed only in theaters.Let's take a look.PadmavatiIt is now a given that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed film would hit the screens in 2018. Expected to be the first major release of the New Year, this one is indeed designed as a dream come true on celluloid as Bhansali brings his vision of the period affair come into play. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor feature in this opulent drama that is easily one of the biggest that Bollywood has to offer.2.0Even 2.0 was planned for 2017 release. Well, 2017's loss is 2018's gain as the biggie is simply made for the big screen. In fact just like Padmavati, even 2.0 is releasing in 3D which means audiences are in for a mega treat. A futuristic sci-fi affair, 2.0 belongs to a rare genre that the film industry has hardly tried. Shankar has designed a face-off between Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar which should be the talk of the town.Manikarnika – The Queen Of JhansiSource: pinkvillaThough not much has been revealed about the film so far, one can trust director Krrish to be making something truly spectacular for the big screen with Manikarnika – The Queen Of Jhansi. The very choice of subject warrants a larger than life presentation since audiences would be in for a treat once Kangana Ranaut enacts the part of Jhansi Ki Rani. With drama galore and battles unfolding, this one is a biggie indeed.GoldOf late, Akshay Kumar has been doing quite a few small films that don't boast of a larger than life canvas but have a germ of an idea that makes for a family audience viewing. With Gold though, he is dreaming much bigger as the story goes into the pre-independence era. A sports drama where Akshay Kumar is presumably playing a rich Indian who comes in support of the Indian hockey time, Gold should bring in 'gold'!Thugs of HindostanWill Thugs of Hindostan turn out to be Bollywood's answer to Pirates of the Caribbean series? Well, nothing is really known about this Yash Raj offering except for the fact that the Dhoom: 3 team of Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and director Vijay Krishna Acharya are coming together to create something spectacular with this mega film. Inarguably the costliest film ever by YRF, this one should be a rage on its Diwali release.

After Saturday’s rather charged atmosphere, Sunday’s Bigg Boss 11 Weekend Ka Waar was a fun-filled episode. It saw the Fukrey team, comprising Varun Sharma, Richa Chadha, Pulkit Samrat and Manjot Singh, enter the house and play quirky games, Salman’s playful banter with inmates, Sultani Akhada dual between Shilpa Shinde and Arshi Khan and finally the game ‘Survival of the Fittest’.Here are the highlights:Salman’s guessing game and Sultani AkhadaAt the start of today’s episode, Salman met the members and not finding Akash on the sofa, enquired about him. He joked how Akash would be leaving the house anyway.Everyone was clearly in a much better mood today, despite knowing that things might change as the episode ended.Soon Salman declared that based on some ‘scientific research’ that he had done, he had decided that in today’s Sultani Akhada, Shilpa and Arshi would be fighting it out.It consisted of two rounds - first, where both the contestants had to prove why each deserved to stay in Bigg Boss house and the second, a Sumo wrestling match. Both Shilpa and Arshi got down to some serious point-scoring session, with each enlisting reasons. Despite Shilpa stating that she had the patience to last the entire session, Arshi won round one.Soon, it was the Sumo round and Arshi, the more pugnacious of the two, won yet again.Fukrey team and their quirky questionsNow, here comes the pure fun part - the first to enter from the Fukrey team were Varun and Pulkit. They turned reporters and ask inmates a series of questions, some really embarrassing ones too! Later, they were joined by Richa and Manjot. They asked Luv Tyagi if he loved Hina or simply liked her. As the rest of the team laughed, Luv tactfully avoided getting into the trap by saying he loved Hina as a friend.Hiten was tossed the question to pick between Shilpa, Hina and Arshi, whom he would marry, hook up with and kill. To which he said, he would marry Arshi, hook up with Shilpa and kill Hina.To the same question, Shilpa answered she would marry Hiten, hook up with Vikas and kill Priyank.Since Hiten and Shilpa answered most of the questions, they got the chance to punish the housemates. While Hiten chose Akash, Shilpa got even with Hina.Soon, the Fukrey left the house and joined Salman for some more fun and mirth.‘Survival of the Fittest’Soon, it was time for the tricky question - who would be asked to leave the house. Salman played the game ‘Survival of the Fittest’ and asked the inmates their top three picks. And while old rivalries played out, a common name to emerge among almost all the contestants was Luv.However, when it was Salman’s turn to speak, his focus was on Akash. To impress Salman, Akash along with Priyank and Luv, presented a new rap number which he had penned especially for Salman.Salman, while being entertained with all the drama, kept the suspense going, insisting that Akash was indeed in a tight spot. Such was the scene that at one point, Akash was almost on the verge of leaving. That’s when Salman fired a salvo, stating that voting lines were closed this week and that everyone was safe, including Akash. The joy on their faces had to be seen to be believed. The episode ended with a major slinging match between Vikas and Hina where the former labelled her as 'chaalu' which didn't go down well with the actor.

The film Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) was what you essentially call a sleeper hit. The movie was also one which gave the industry one of its most energetic and expressive actors ever, in the form of Ranveer Singh. The movie marked his debut in Bollywood, and was Anushka Sharma’s second film.A major reason behind the massive response and buzz generated before the release was its music (who can forget the peppy Ainvayi Ainvayi?). Shot mostly in Delhi, the story was about the carefree, chilled-out Bittoo Sharma (played by Ranveer), and the ambitious, strong-willed Shruti Kakkar (Anushka Sharma). The two start out hating each other, but join hands for business, only to part ways after love creates complications. How the two reconcile forms the rest of the story. As the film marks 7 years of its release, (and hence, 7 years of Ranveer, too), here are 10 things about the film which you probably didn’t know:1. Ranveer wasn’t the original choice for the film! It was Ranbir Kapoor, who turned it down.2. When the shooting of the film was on in Delhi, a crowd gathered — naturally — to see which film was being shot. Some thought it was Ranbir Kapoor, while some were left guessing who it was, because Ranveer was completely unknown till then! Even Anushka wasn’t recognised by many, even after having starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi! The cops called in to secure the sets complained that they had to be there in the cold when the stars were unknown to anyone.3. Ranveer had revealed in an interview to GlamSham, “When we were shooting in the DDA market in Delhi, there was a huge crowd gathered to see the shoot. And there was a liquor store there. It was situated in such a place, that the crew was blocking its way. After some time, the owner came up and said I have lost so much money because of you! What the hell are you doing? My business is going down! Everyone was trying to control him. The direction team tried to plead saying, we are just going, we are just about to finish. But he was not budging. Then I went up to him, and said, “Please sir, meri pehli film hai”. And I don’t know what got into him. He suddenly melted! And said: “Oh bhai, tuney kya baat kehdi. Ab tu shooting kar! Saari raat shooting kar!”4. The film was shot in many popular places in Delhi, including North Campus of Delhi University. The scene where Ranveer and Anushka are eating a bread pakora under a tree was shot at Lovers’ Point of Hansraj College, where it’s rumoured that Shah Rukh Khan (an alumnus of the college) had proposed to his wife Gauri Khan.5. How Ranveer Singh bagged the film is the stuff dreams are made of. Shanoo Sharma, the casting director of the film called him seven times, but he didn’t pick up, because he was on a date! She left him a message saying ‘Adi Chopra audition’, which finally made Ranveer realise the gravity of the situation.6. When Ranveer met Aditya Chopra, the producer of the film after he was finalised, he was told, “You’re not the most good looking guy. You have to do some good acting if you want people to like you.”7. The film was originally rumoured to be titled Shaadi Mubarak. The rumours had intensified so much that the producers had to actually step in and issue a statement that the film’s name was not that.8. The film became so popular upon release, that it was officially remade in Tamil and Telugu titled Aaha Kalyanam, starring Vaani Kapoor and Nani in the lead roles.9. Ranveer was the first ever solo hero to be launched by Yash Raj Films.10. While shooting an intense scene, Ranveer’s elbow accidentally hit Anushka’s face! She was cool about it, but Ranveer revealed in an interview later, “The ADs (assistant directors) of the film started having fun and wanting to watch the scene in slow motion!”

7 years ago, on this date, released a film called Band Baaja Baaraat which was very well received by the mainstream audiences. The small budgeted film went on to become a hit at the box office and marked the debut of director Manish Sharma and actor Ranveer Singh. Anushka Sharma was the only star attraction of the film as she had debuted with 2008 blockbuster Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008.Ranveer Singh's performance as the always energetic, impulsive and enthusiastic Bittoo Sharma won over the critics and the audiences alike and he became a household name after the success of his debut film. He felt like a breath of fresh air in the industry where all the actors stick to their comfort zones. Be with his roles, his interactions with the press or fans and the zany outfits he wears almost everywhere, the actor has carved a special place for himself in the hearts of people. He has done 9 films till date and has 4 hits, 2 average, one below average and 2 flops in his kitty and will soon be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati. It has been a rich and rewarding journey for him and we look at the 7 things which prove that he is on his way to becoming India's next superstar:Energy & Enthusiasm:Everyone wants to know what's the secret? He is always charged and full of energy and lightens up any environment he is in. Fans love him whenever he starts dancing on the streets or shares funny videos with fellow actors on the social media. There's never a dull moment when you are with him and he brings the same charisma and energy to his roles.Challenging Roles:He hasn't stuck with a comfort zone and that is one special quality about him. He has experimented in his 9 films, be it a period-romance, historical-drama, action-thriller or romantic comedies. He has played each of his role with 100% conviction.Acting:He has aced almost all the roles he has played and dedicated a lot of time to study his characters and then portrays them effectively. His acting skills are top notch in films like Bajirao Mastani, Lootera, Band Baaja Baaraat and just the trailer of Padmavati is enough to give you the chills that simply establishes the fact that he's a great actor.Dancing Skills:In Bollywood, if you are to stay for a long run you need to be a good dancer and his dancing skills are simply outstanding. In all of his films, he has given great dance numbers to the audiences and everyone appreciated how perfectly he aced the dance steps in Befikre and also when he started dancing as Krrish in the streets of Mumbai.Keen Learner:Be it sword fighting or the Maratha accent of Bajirao or even the Gujarati accent of Ram in Ram Leela, the actor has showcased that he's a great learner. After effectively researching on his characters, he completely disappears into the character and this trait sets him apart from the competition.Director's Actor:At a time when actors are highly careful about their roles and characters and only play the roles in which they are comfortable, he is an out and out director's actor. He has shaved his head for Bajirao, recused himself from everyone to portray Khilji in Padmavati and did all the things his directors asked him to. And for those who say he only does well in commercial films, maybe they have missed his best performance to date in Lootera.Best Boyfriend Ever:It's not just acting where he strives to be the best, he has often given all the boyfriends in India some serious boyfriend goals and girls can't stop swooning over the best boyfriend ever. For those who are living under a rock, the actor is in a relationship with Deepika Padukone.

Fukrey Returns has done what majority of films haven't been able to do in 2017, which is to pleasantly surprise audience and trade. Though there have been rude shocks galore with films not taking opening as per credentials [Tubelight, Jab Harry Met Sejal to name a few], pleasant surprises have been hard to come. Yes, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion was huge at 41 crore and so was Golmaal Again which surpassed all expectations to open at 30.14 crore. However, these were big name films with sequel/franchise factor working in their favor. Otherwise, it has been a season of one disappointment after another. This is the reason why the opening number of 8.10 crore is just tremendous for Fukrey Returns since no other film in 2017 has managed such good collections despite no big star in there. The film has taken 15th highest opening of 2017 and right from Baahubali 2 to Jagga Jasoos (the films from number 1 to 14) boasts of a major star/director leading from the front. These films are:Baahubali 2 [SS Rajamouli]Golmaal Again [Ajay Devgn, Rohit Shetty]Tubelight [Salman Khan]Raees [Shah Rukh Khan]Judwaa 2 [Varun Dhawan]Jab Harry Met Sejal [Shah Rukh Khan]Jolly LLB 2 [Akshay Kumar]Toilet - Ek Prem Katha [Akshay Kumar]Badrinath Ki Dulhania [Varun Dhawan]Baadshaho [Ajay Devgn]Kaabil [ Hrithik Roshan]Half Girlfriend [Arjun Kapoor]Sachin - A Billion Dreams [Sachin Tendulkar]Jagga Jasoos [Ranbir Kapoor]Hence, when Fukrey Returns with Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Richa Chaddha, Ali Fazal and Manjot Singh emerges such a good success on its very first day, it is indeed heartening. As a matter of fact, let's take a look at the opening day numbers of 10 films that have either performed similar to Fukrey Returns or have been lower than that:Sachin - A Billion Dreams - 8.60 croreJagga Jasoos - 8.57 croreFukrey Returns - 8.10 croreMunna Michael - 6.65 croreRangoon - 6.07 croreRaabta - 5.61 croreMubarakan - 5.16 croreCommando 2 - 5.15 croreNaam Shabana - 5.12 croreOK Jaanu - 4.08 croreAs is apparent, couple of films above Fukrey Returns are bigger ones. On the other hand even the ones below it have major credentials involved. Tiger Shroff [Munna Michael], Saif Ali Khan-Shahid Kapoor-Kangana Ranaut [Rangoon], Sushant Singh Rajput [Raabta], Anil Kapoor-Arjun Kapoor [Mubarakan], Taapsee Pannu [Naam Shabana], Aditya Roy Kapur-Shraddha Kapoor [OK Jaanu] have all given bigger successes and these releases of theirs were much more hyped as well.
