The Hetal Pareikh mrder casae had been one of the most interesting cases in the recent history! The class 10 girl was found murdered in her apartment in a central Kolkata locality and the watchman of the apartment was held for the murder, rape and theft of a wrist watch for the school girl. While there had been no eye witnesses to the case, a case was registered build on the circumstantial evidences. Dhanonjoy chatterjee had repeteadly pleaded himself innocent and even though he had served almost a life sentence, he was finally given a death sentence. After the President also rejected his mercy plea, he was hanged in 2004. The case not only raised a number of debates on wheather death sentences should be prevalent, but 2015 onwards, fresh plea has been registered saying that Chatterjee was innocent!
Needless to say, this has been one of the most controversial cases of the recent past, and the case has had effects that can be seenven now! So eminent Bengali director Arindam Sil has decided to make ths the story of his latest film, the trailer of which has been out now!
The film explores the flaws in the circumstantial evidences and raises the much oft asked question- was Dhananjoy really guilty or was he innocent? Was he the heinious murderer who killed and raped the girl, or was he victimised because he was a poor man who could not fight to prove his innocence.
The film might be based on the recent book 'Adalat-Media-Samaj Ebong Dhananjayer Fashi' (Court-Media-Society and Dhananjay's Hanging) that points how on how he might be completely innocent.
