No one on earth had imagined the unprecendented success of Ekta Kapoor’s stellar show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thhi. From a four year old to a 60 year old, every household was glued to this show. People who have never watched it also know who Mihir was and what happened when he died. The dawn of a new cinematic touch to Indian TV shows, this show changed the face and name of Star Plus. It starred the current I&B minister Smriti Irani in the lead role as Tulsi Virani, and Ronit Roy as Mihir Virani. The show was popular for its almost 300 year old great grandmother Ba (played by late Sudha Shivpuri) and the chronicles of an empowered Indian housewife.

Before the invasion of saas bahu dramas on Hindi Television, we’ve seen more comic and entertaining shows in India, one of which is Hum Paanch, which made Zee TV world famous.
