Imtiaz Ali Explains All The Logic Defying Moments About JHMS, One Question At A Time!
No other director in Bollywood does what Imtiaz Ali does after every movie release. He went on to announce that he’ll be live on Facebook and would be ready to take questions about Jab Harry Met Sejal, which has tanked at the box office despite SRK and Anushka’s presence in the movie. He answered a lot of questions that many of us had in our minds while watching JHMS, and some of his answers really make sense. Here are the highlights of this interaction.
Why did Sejal seek validation from Harry?
Imtiaz said that all young girls grow up in a certain environment and they don’t realise their worth in terms of physical being. She had latent insecurities about the way she appears. And especially when you find a person who completes you, you do want their validation.
What was the brief he gave to Pritam and Irshad for the song Ghar?
Imtiaz told that during the shoot of Tamasha in Shimla he figured out a place where there are huge steps that connect the middle bazar with the mall and the city. There he saw labourers carrying unimaginably heavy load on their back, and each of them listen to a happy-sad song with happy lyrics sung in a female voice, but sad tune. It keeps them going and they feel incomplete without that song. In the rigors of life it gives them interesting melody.
Why are almost all male characters same in Imtiaz Ali movies?
Imtiaz took the bullet and answered a question that does rounds of the internet everytime his movie comes. He said, subconsciously, he’s the same person in a way. Aditya, Jordan and Harry have a bunch of common features but Imtiaz never meant to be autobiographical in his attempts. He agrees that some part of him gets reflected in these characters.
Is there something he wanted to add in JHMS but couldn’t?
He actually wanted to make it an extremely light and small film.
Why do his movies always center on journeys and then self-discovery?
“I want journeys! I’m desperately in need of journeys and self-discovery!”
How difficult/easy is to work with a superstar?
Imtiaz gave a very diplomatic answer to this question saying that all of them are really sensitive and humble in real life and very easy to work with.
