    Bollywood films have started to touch new box office milestones and breaking old records almost every year. There was a time when films like Mughal-E-Azam, DDLJ and Sholay set up new trends and went running on for weeks at the theatres. Nowadays, the benchmark of a film's blockbuster status is determined by the fact that whether has it touched 100 crore mark at the box office or not.

    Ghajini started the trend way back in 2008 when the Aamir Khan -Asin starrer grossed over 114 crores at the box office. He also has the maximum number films that have broken box office records and currently holds the top two slots of highest ever grossing Bollywood films.

    In 2009 there was only one film that grossed over 100 crores and it was the blockbuster 3 Idiots that ended up grossing 201 crores.

    In 2010 there were 2 films out of the top 10 money earners, Dabangg and Golmaal 3 that grossed over 100 crores.

    In 2011 there were 5 films in Top 10 that grossed over 100 crores. Salman and Srk had 2 films each while Ajay Devgn had Singham on the list.

    In 2012, we had 9 films in top 10 that grossed more than 100 crores, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan had 2 films each while Ranbir Kapoor , SRK and Hrithik Roshan also made it on the list.

    In 2013, there were many firsts in the Box Office as some of the top 10 earners were sex comedy and a biopic. 8 films grossed over 100 crores at the box office.

    2014 was a year of Box office records as 9 out of 10 films grossed more than 100 crores at the box office.

    In 2015 we saw only 7 films crossing the 100 crore barrier out of top 10.

    In 2016, 8 films topped 100 crores collections out of top 10.
