Bollywood has an affininty for biopics. The real life inspirational figures have a readymade story for a typical Bollywood film, fighting against all odds and come out as a winner. The Bollywood writers, directors and actors are always on the lookout for an inspirational story with which they will be able to connect and the audiences will throng to the theatres. If we see a star doing a biopic, the film gets more recognition and has the chances of doing performing decently at the box office. Some of the biopics go on to break box office records and as we saw last year, Dangal, starring Aamir Khan was based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters and is now the highest grossing Bollywood film. We have seen Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, The Dirty Picture and M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story doing well at the box office as well as impressing critics. But it’s not always the case when these films strike gold at the box office; some of these turn out to be damp squib at the box office.
