Yash Chopra romances are nothing short of Classics in Bollywood. Veer Zaara was another fine work from the romantic genius where he worked with Shah Rukh Khan for the fourth time in 2004. The cross-border romance starring Preity Zinta opposite Shah Rukh Khan is love ballad that is sort of iconic in the modern-day romances. Aishwarya Rai – The film was said to have been written for her to play Zaara but following her tiff with Shah Rukh Khan after Chalte Chalte she walked out of both films.
Kajol – She was the second in a row to have said no to Yash Chopra for playing Zaara while most other actresses would have killed for the role.
Divya Dutta – She ended up playing the role of Shaboo who was Zaara’s friend in the film but had revealed that she had earlier declined the part as she did not want to get typecast doing small roles. It was at Aditya Chopra’s words that she agreed.
Ajay Devgn – Manoj Bajpayee ended up playing Raza Sharazi in the film who was Zaara’s fiancé in the film, while the role was initially extended to Ajay Devgn.
Dharmendra – The actor has a long-standing tiff with Yash Chopra and thus he turned down the role of Choudhary Sumer Singh that was played by Amitabh Bachchan in the film.
Sridevi – Hema Malini was roped in to played Veer’s aunt Saraswati Kaur after Sridevi refused to play the character.
