The much awaited VIP sequel starring Dhanush and Kajol in the lead will finally hit the screens on August 11. Dhanush revealed the release date via his Twitter page on Tuesday evening. Originally planned to hit the screens on July 28 to coincide with Dhanush’s birthday, the film was postponed for reasons unknown. Directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, best known for helming Kochadaiyaan, VIP 2 has story and dialogues by Dhanush.
The film marks the return of Kajol to Kollywood nearly after two decades. Last seen in Arvind Swami starrer Minsara Kanavu, she’s playing a character with negative shades in VIP 2, which is jointly produced by Dhanush and Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The film’s teaser and trailer were very well received and Kajol’s presence in the trailer grabbed a lot of attention.
Playing a suave and conniving business woman called Vasundhara, her face-off with Dhanush is definitely going to be the biggest highlight of the film and it was quite evident from the film’s trailer. However, a section of the audience felt her character is very similar to Vijayashanti’s role from Rajinikanth’s Mannan.
VIP 2, which has been dubbed in Telugu and Hindi, will be Dhanush’s second release of the year after the highly successful Pa Paandi, which also marked his directorial debut. The film also stars Amala Paul, Samuthirakani and Vivekh in key roles.
