Dhanush has decided to quit smoking in films. The decision has come after receiving letter from the former union minister Anbumani Ramadoss. The minister was unhappy that the star smoked quite often in his recent film and that it could lead a negative impact on the audiences. While replying in a letter to Ramadoss, Dhanush claimed that he would not smoke in films from now on, just like Rajinikanth, Vijay and Suriya.

Dhanush played the role of a chain smoker in Maari. Those sections of the movie, in which the actor smoked, became a major concern for Ramadoss as his party has been campaigning against tobacco and liquor from more than 10 years in the past. He requested Dhanush to avoid such scenes in future.

Dhanush, in reply, wrote in a letter that he isn’t a smoker in real life. He further clarified that smoking in the film was necessary as the character demanded. Dhanush assured the minister that he wouldn’t smoke on-screen from now on.
