Editor V Don Bosco, who marked his debut as an editor in Sasikumar’s Sundarapandian, carved a niche for himself in the industry. He has many films to his credit, including Idhu Kathirvelan Kadhal. Like other editors in the southern film industries, Don Bosco is donning director’s hat for a yet to be titled film. The editor-turned director talks about his expedition and the reason for switching fields.

“I started off as a graphic designer, and at my workplace where I got to learn about editing — I made my first short film Help. The film garnered a lot of recognition for me, and I landed up with the opportunity to edit Drums Sivamani’s album. Then I went on to work in dozens of TV dramas for all the leading Tamil channels, and I got acquainted with SR Prabhakaran sir there. When he made his film with Sasi Kumar, he gave me the chance to edit the film. But all through my journey, my passion for directing has always been there,” he explains.

The genre of the film will be parallel to the likes of Chennai 28, Madhayanai Kootam, and Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, but will be treated another way, debutant director Bosco explains.  He is thus confident about this project and is assertive that this attempt wouldn’t be a flop. When axed if he would be editing the film, he says, “Since I know editing, I will know how to reduce the number of shots while shooting a film. So, instead of taking ten shots, I can reduce it even three or four. Also, even if an actor is unavailable, an editor will know how to shoot without that actor and still not spoil the continuity!”
