The Pandiaraj directorial Kathakali apparently has some “incriminating” dialogues and scenes that have offended the washermen community. Petitioner K P Manibaba of Tamilnadu Vannar Peravai stated that some dialogues present in the film were offensive to the community. The movie stars Vishal and Catherine Tresa in the lead roles.

The censor board has got a notice from the Madras High Court regarding the same issue. The notice demands the removal of dialogues and some scenes that offend the washerman community, which is already an oppressed community. The CEO of the Central Board of Film Certification, among others, has been asked to submit a reply within a week.

Kathakali has been produced by Vishal and Pandiraj. The cast also includes Soori, Karunas and Nassar. Hiphop Tamizha has scored the music for the film and Balasubramaniem has taken care of the cinematography. The movie was released on January 14 in India with a premier on January 13 in the U.S.
