    Siva director Ameerjan breathes his last at 73

    Ace Kollywood filmmaker Ameerjan, who contributed in about 20 films, breathed his last at his residence in Chennai. The director was admitted to a private hospital a few days back, after suffering a heart-attack. He was at his home when he complained of breathlessness and passed away, before the ambulance could arrive. He was 73.

    Ameerjan had worked under ace filmmaker K. Balachander as an assistant director before turning into a full time director. Murali-Kuyili starrer Poovilangu which hit the screens in 1984, was apparently his first directorial venture. He also directed many superstars like Rajinikanth in Siva, Vijayakanth in Uzaithu Vazha Vendum and Karthik in Natpu, among others. His movies like Poovilangu and Vanna Kanavugal made him one of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers in Tamil cinema. He is survived by a son and a daughter.
