Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recent release ‘Gethu’ released last month on January 14 on the occasion of Pongal. The film got a decent opening and grossed Rs. 5.50 crore on the first day. The makers tried to get the film tax exemption but failed, finally they have succeeded now almost a month after the release.

The state government did not agree to exempt the flick from tax as the title ‘Gethu’ was not Ramil. They said that because the title was not Tamil the Thirukumaran directorial can’t qualify for exemption. Udhayanidhi went to the Tamil Nadu high court with the proof that the title is Tamil, but the government in defence said that the title could be considered Tamil if the makers changed the title to ‘Kethu’.

Reportedly, the court ruled the decision in favour of the Nannbenda actor. The crime thriller featuring Amy Jackson got 30 percent tax exemption. The actor shared his happiness with his fans and tweeted “#redgiant wins the case against the TN govt! Chennai high court grants tax exemption for #gethu from the date of release!”.
