    Veteran Tamil Lyricist Kavignar Kalidasan Dies

    Legendary Tamil lyricist Kavignar Kalidasan passed away on Sunday night. The veteran was fighting through a prolonged illness. Popularly called as Kalidas, he wrote down his first song for the film Thalattu.

    In that movie he was credited as Thiruppathhooran. Kalidasan has been active in Tamil films since 1970s and has penned a song in popular flick Sattam En Kayyil. The flick was one of the early successful movies in Kamal Haasan’s career as lead actor.

    The famous lyricist only started using own name Kalidasan from Vaigasi Porandachu, the debut film of Thenisai Thendral Deva. During his last days, he was staying in his native city Thanjavur after getting treatment in a private hospital. His body was brought to his son's house in Vannarapet, Chennai and cremated late in the evening.
