Yuvan Shankar Raja says that his father Illayaraaja was a strict follower of Hinduism. Though, Yuvan never prayed to God, but the sudden demise of his mother turned him spiritual. He apparently became lonely after his mother left for heavenly abode and was grateful to a friend who offered him a prayer mat and asked to call upon the Almighty, whenever he felt upset. Yuvan was soon inclined to Islam and has been reading the Quran since then. His father was not happy with his desire to embrace Islam. But, his brother and sister-in-law approved his decision.

Talking about his relationships, Yuvan says that he got married at the age of 25, but his first marriage lasted for just three months. He married again in 2011. But, unfortunately the second marriage too is on the verge of ending. "I feel very lonely and would like to get married again and have a family. The main problem with me is that I need to give more time to my relationship. I do minimum 10 films every year and I'm always preoccupied," he concluded.
