Thaman clears the air, says he’s not a copycat

Music director Thaman found himself in the midst of controversy recently. People have blamed him of copying the background score of Malayalam film Avatharam for Mahesh Babu starrer Aagadu. Hence, he was accused of plagiarism and the news spread like wild fire on social networking websites.

However, Mahesh Babu’s fans favoured Thaman and said that the music of Aagadu was released much before Avatharam. Thaman said, "I think the makers of the Malayalam film didn't realise that it would become a big issue. I'm glad that they have clarified and apologised for their mistake. However, I'm not sure what the current status is."

“The trailer which was released online was just a dummy, which we have uploaded for the promotion. The original BGM by Deepak Dev is still under production. We took the background score from online and never knew it would result in something like this," he further justified himself.

The music director refuses allegations and says, "I am not a copycat. I just deliver what my directors, producers want and I can't say no to their requirement at any given time. There's a lot of money and prestige at stake for every film and I take my work and my relationship with everyone I work with quite seriously."
