Right from childhood when I first discovered Superman I had been a loyal fan until the superman films started disappointing me. Superman returns was the final nail in the coffin and I thought now nobody can save superman on the big screen but there is one man who has probably single handedly taken upon himself to reinvent American superheroes, that man is Christopher Nolan. Right from the first trailer he prepared us for a dark, brooding and serious Superman. He bought in writer David S. Goyer ( Batman triology) to write the film and Zack Snyder ( Watchmen) to direct it but man of steel ends up having a Nolan stamp on it more than Zack Snyder’s.
The Screenplay wipes the slate clean and starts from the beginning. Starting off from telling the story of superman’s birth to the destruction of krypton and his landing on earth it cuts to his life as an adult in search of answers about his birth and superpowers. The heart of the film lies in the flashback sequences of his childhood and his relationship with his father Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and mother Martha Kent ( Diane Lane). Until general Zod ( Michael Shannon) comes down to earth in search of Kal/Clark ( Henry Cavill) the film is in the same space as batman begins but later turns into the blockbuster destruction movie which most of us want out of our superheroes film. if ‘bring on more action’ is what you want then the mayhem and destruction in the end will leave you saying bas bas stop this tod fod but if you orgasm watching mayhem on screen then the climax won’t disappoint you.
Word of mouth – Man of steel is a blockbuster with heart.
