Verdict - Weak Performances And Over The Top Melodrama Make It A Disappointing Watch
From the house of commitment phobic millennials comes another modern day love story, Half Girlfriend, that stars Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. The melodramatic film is a story of Madhav Jha and his Half Girlfriend Riya Somani and tries too hard to impress, but fails in turn.
In a series of failures for the film, Arjun and Shraddha fail to deliver good performances on screen. The lack of chemistry is evident and while Arjun was too busy trying to get his Bihari accent right, Shraddha was too depressed to act in the film. After the entire long saga of the guy falling for the girl and the girl not so much, it still didn’t make sense was to what they exactly meant by the term Half Girlfriend. The only notable performance in the film was by actor Vikrant Messey and he clearly stood out in in that department.
While Bollywood has prepared us for most anything over so many years, there were some plot twists we quite could not wrap out heads around in this one. Be it Bill Gates funding toilets in a village in Bihar, or Shraddha’s favorite hangout being the top of India Gate, there is too much that is still to pass out of the system.
The music that runs through the length of the movie quite drives you into depression and makes it a little difficult to watch the movie. Had it not been Arjun’s persistence the film the entire story would have been really cut short and saved us all.
Mohit Suri’s direction was quite upto the mark but sadly the plot couldn’t save it. If you have to watch a film where English is the villain in the story, opt for Hindi Medium and not Half Grlfriend.
