Verdict - A going nowhere drag !
Sure Christopher Nolan is one of our best. Sure he has made some thrilling stuff in the past. The Batman triology is a personal favourite.
Dunkirk is a colossal dud. It does start with a tense atmosphere and the visuals are brilliant. It does bring out the dark side of war and how it can make even the bravest of a soldier petty and selfish. In fact the first fifteen odd minutes make you think you are on to a taut thriller from Nolan then the horrifying going nowhere plot unfolds.
We have however seen all this before in far better movies. Sorry dear Nolan but if we have already been treated to stuff like Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the Gates we expected a better war film from you.
Visuals do not make a movie and the director gets too obsessed with the brooding and gloomy narrative. In the end even a 106 minute movie ends up looking like a drag.
Stay away this one has disappointment written all over it with a capital D.
