Reason why you should not watch London Paris New York:

1. It is VERY tacky. After the main man and the woman finally have sex, he lies in bed and tells her, "We should roadtrip across Europe together. Stay up all night and make love." WHAT?! To this my friend immediately said "But then, who would drive in the morning?"

2. Ali Zafar, good looking, sings well, but in the film is one of those really ghati dudes that lands up abroad with his Punjabi accent that never goes away. He was trying to play this classy guy, parading around with his Hermes belts and Gucci bags but then he talks and it was like I was walking through Sector 17 market in Chandigarh.

3. Our main lady, Aditi Rao Hydari suffers from split personality. Period.

4. There was no story in this love story. Whatever little there was, was full of flaws.

5. The makers of the film should have spent longer than a few days in the 3 cities before shooting there. New York had exactly 2 locations which were shown over and over and over and over. 1: Times square. 2: New Jersey, over looking the Husdon and the Manhattan Skyline. Both locations have been well exploited by Karan Johar, something new would have helped.

Skip LPNY this weekend. I heard they tried to make the film similar to Before Sunrise, something I have been meaning to watch for a while now. Stay in and watch Ethan Hawke fall in love in Vienna instead.view less

Do you believe that two people can meet exactly 3 times in a span of 7 years and still be in love?

Do you like conversation films in which the leads talk talk and talk?

Do you like Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari or any one of them?

Do you like movies that get over in less than 2 hours?

Are you a travel buff who likes to see places in movies and focus on the name of the Caf/ street/shop if the movies fails to interest you?

If the answers to all of the above or at least a majority of theme is YES then this movie is made for you.

Whats it about? Boy (Ali Zafar) and girl (Aditi Rao Hydari) meet and spend a day in London. Boy and girl meet and spend a night in Paris. Boy and girl meet and spend a night in New York. Spread over 7 years its a 3 day story of the Boy and Girl falling in love.

How is it? Theek hai

Why? I have a huge crush on Aditi so for me just watching her on screen made the film work but her character didnt work. If not for Aditi playing Lalitha I would have come out tearing my hair. On the other hand Ali Zafars character Nikhil is more endearing and his complexes are more real. And with the emotional outburst scene in the end Ali Zafar just owned the film. That scene was the only emotional connect I had with the film. The film is well shot but doesnt use the places enough to impress a travel buff like me. Anu Menons direction flows smoothly with an easy going breezy vibe and just for going against the tide and casting the leads she deserves full marks . Thehree si and Voh Dekhnay mein are the only songs that work well on the screen but Vo Dekhnay is butchered on the edit table. The editing of all the songs except Thehree Si put me off the music of the film.

Final few words: LPNY is easy on the eyes and the ears. What else do you want in a conversation film?

Fox Star Studios new film set across three global cities is a story of two people who meet at a London airport and spend a day together. Zaffars Nikhil Chopra is an archetypal flirt who harbors dreams to become a filmmaker and live life without fear while Aditis Lalita is an on-your-face feminist who wants to bring a change in the world.

How they fulfill these aspirations is NOT the story, although it is hinted toward the end, quite haphazardly (and superficially), that the two have managed to accomplish their ambitions.

Day 1 progresses with getting soaked in the rain and making out in the church (ok theres just one song, but it reminded me of Saif-Deepikas lovingly filmed kiss in the church in Imtiaz Alis Love Aaj Kal). Both realize that there is something more to the meet and an airport farewell concludes with a promise to meet in New York after some six-odd-months between which they will have no correspondence (No long-distance non-sense, says Lalita) The two meet in Paris and New York after 2 years respectively and how the relationship evolves is the films unstructured storyline.

Yes, this is that kind of film where the hero sprints in the end towards - wherever - as montages of his glorious past feature in-between shots and all subtlety resigns as the score goes into a crescendo, dramatically punctuating the predictable closure.

But the trouble with this globe-trotting film is that even if it has a template script to adhere to, it doesnt approach it with any novelty. There are dialogues that we have heard repeatedly - a major drawback for a film which is quite character-driven than plot-oriented. Theres a serious lack of wit which hampers the proceedings since most of the screen-space is covered with conversations between its two protagonists.

So when the film is moving forward with each passing city, the story doesnt really have any scope to dramatically evolve. Like they kiss in London, have sex in Paris and awkwardly fall in love in New York, but these scenes appear as if they are independent of the film they are in. There is no generic growth with the film appearing to be a highly frivolous costume-and-make-up drama which only tells you that French is spoken with a pout.

Instead of locking the characters in imaginatively thought conflicts, director-screen-writer Anu Menon comes up with an enormously cringe-worthy clich which is employed in Paris instigating the picture to become insufferable.

Is the directors vision of showing a character progress is to have her talk in an alienated accent, have pots of alcohol and fashion her in a weird haircut? While the man gets a moustache and stubble? Lalita is repeatedly promoted as a feminist but what has stemmed the feminism is left unexplained. You can get away with Zaffars Nikhil Chopra as a Bombay-brat running away from his parents, pursuing filmmaking not-so-faithfully, but if you want to add depth to the character, there have to be detailed nuances which reveal so.

These two are city-touring caricatures of the unlikable variety. Their aspirations are superfluous and their arguments, absurd. It makes for a pseudo-commentary on contemporary romance. I repeatedly mention, this is a genre which is best mastered by Imtiaz Ali who knows the art of fleshing out characters and rendering them with the sort of indecisiveness which have you root for them.

Honestly, you dont care if Lalita or Nikhil ever meet. Maybe just a little, when Nikhil goes surprisingly ballistic towards the end.
Barring a couple of songs, the film doesnt flaunt any exceptional cinematography and further suffers due to an erratic editing which makes the picture incoherent and look amateur.

Ali Zaffar says lines as if he is getting a lyrical orgasm whereas Aditi just about passes through the film. Though both actors have a striking screen-presence, there isnt enough on display to sustain the film.
Screen-writing is a rare art. To induce the conversational banter with tension, to make that midnight stroll look ethereally romantic, to film kissing scenes which you would want to watch on youtube later, it requires an exceptional skill and artistic imagination.

London, Paris, New York is not much but a tourist template where the actors had fun shopping

These makers must take some lessons from Woody Allen. He has one classic dedicated to each of the three cities.

And the reason why I thank New York out of all the three cities in this tri-city marathon is because thats where the film ends. London Paris New York is one of those films that capture a particular mood (in this case of the internationally acclaimed Before Sunrise) and turn it on its head and toss it around so much that before you know it, there is nothing beautiful left from the original idea and all there is its garish cheesy Bollywood version.

The film is about Nikhil and Lalitha who meet on a stop over in London and before the day ends, Nikhil who is this suave flirt ends up falling for the (pseudo) feminist Lalitha. The rest of the film is about Nikhil chasing Lalithas egoistical (albeit cute) fanny across continents in a bid to make her fall in love with him. She on the other hand eludes and breaks his heart every time. But as true love is, she ends up falling for him on the day of her wedding. Touche.

The screenplay is absurd and most of the dialogues so retarded that you laugh at the idiocy of them. Barring a couple of scenes, there is nothing that holds your attention or even makes you smile. Lalithas character is almost schizophrenic and not in a good way. You never understand her motives for behaving how she does. Nikhil (portrayed almost to perfection by Ali Zafar) has some good scenes but an overall lack of coherency in the narrative make them fade into oblivion and you remember nothing remarkable from the film.

Aditi Rao Hydari as a newcomer fails to make her mark simply because in spite of her doe eyes and pouty lips, she never makes Lalitha endearing to watch. Zafar shines and has shown remarkable improvement since Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

Writer-director Anu Menon delivers a half baked film and even though shot beautifully, some poor editing and an overall lack of vision makes London Paris New York a tedious outing. The music of the film is hummable and sweet, which is why I m giving the film an extra half star. 2.5 stars for an average adventure.

First things first, I cant understand how some one can fall in love in 1 day and that too thrice. But If we assume that its possible, this movie is a decent watch with a decent performance from Ali Zafar. It does have its flaws especially towards the climax, but you can still catch it on satellite television and not complain about having to pay for it.

They say destiny plays a big role in 2 people meeting each other and falling in love. As luck would have it, Lalitha misses her connecting flight to New York and ends up spending the entire day with Nikhil, whom she met on the flight, in London. The two seem to build some chemistry with each other and fall in love. But Lalitha has to leave and Nikhil promises to come visit her in NY. Circumstances arise due to which Nikhil could not make it and the pair meet again in Paris when Nikhil starts looking for her and then again in NY after several years.

What was difficult to fathom was that both the lead characters had enough reasons to hate each other, and they do end up hating each other, but then their inner love calls them and unites them. The climax especially was too hard to digest. The whole NY part for that matter was poorly written and seemed forced. You could clearly see the influence of Hum Tum on writer director Anu Menon. The outburst that Ali's character has in the end is the only element that seems real in the movie.

All rounder Ali Zafar has composed the music, written the lyrics, sung the songs as well as acted in this movie. The songs are melodious and catchy. They play a good narrative role as well which also helps. Vo Dekhne mei is the best of the lot.

It seems Ali Zafar had the entire film running on his shoulders and he does a decent job of carrying it too. He is easy going with his acting and seems natural to the core in front of the camera. Aditi Rao on the other hand is a little shrill and although has a cute face, does not live up to the hype in her acting skills. Her character is under baked to make things worse for her.

The film has its moments but the three cities provide three stories. There was no binding agent for the three cities. The movie gets predictable at times and there is no factor to keep you glued to the screen. Anu Menon does a decent job in telling the story but falters in her writing.

Overall you would not miss anything if you did not catch this one.
