Salman Khan is back with a bang. Director Anees Bazmee takes bulls by the horns and tries to win the heart of the audience with another extravaganze by Salman Khan. What impressed me the most is that even if the script is weak with no solid ground of sense, even then the Khan power works like a charm on the audience every time movie release after release.

The story is not that complex, a no brainer like other of Salamans movies. All lovely Prem aka Salman Khan and Sanjanna aka Asin Thottumkal are in love. Only glitch they face between them and their happy life are her greedy uncles, who want to embezzle Sanjanna's family inheritance by any fraud means. On the other hand Prem's family is a supportive kind right behind him in any of her crazy deeds. The dirty tricks do not seem to have an end from either side giving up at any time soon. But as we know Khan prevails, with his charming dialogues and fighting skills.

Songs by Music Director, Pritam Chakraborty are made to fit the personality of Salman Bhai and not the movie. Lyrics of Character Dheela and Dhinka Chika sung by Mika Singh are already a crowd hit making it a wise decision for the producers of the movie to invest in this hit flick. An okey watch, unless you have any other Dhinchaak movie to watch expect for Hollywood releases.

A review of this film cannot be done. When a film is made with the sensibilities that are just the opposite of a film critics (no matter who), a review cannot be done. Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have a fan base that understands and appreciates their kind of cinema. And when the numbers are talking, it is pointless to pontificate. So lets refrain from calling Ready good or bad.

However the key points of a film need to be discussed. So here goes:

The script was all over the place just like the actors. Salman looked jaded and Asin hams in places. Some of the dialogue was funny and purely because of the audacity of it all. But then again the laughs were few and far between. And this is the reaction of a houseful of audience. The edit work was superior and helped give the film a theme that was much needed otherwise. The climax was the only sequence which was at par with the earlier good work of Salman or say Shah Rukh. The songs are already a hit and manage to lift the film whenever they play.

In summation, if you are not a Salman Khan fan dont watch this film. If you are a Salman Khan fan, well you wouldnt be reading a review.

If you give Salman Khan a half decent premise in the name of a script which allows him to have fun and fill it with gags which if works for an average Indian audience means that you have a hit written all over the film.

With Wanted Salman discovered a formula. With Dabangg he reinforced it and now with Ready he is playing the same gamble again. Salman is walking the same path as Jeetendra who thrived on south remakes in the 80s and delivered hits after hits at the box office.

Returning as Prem for the 12th time since Maine pyar kiya Salman in ready is still a mix match of all the Prems he has played before. This time he falls in love with Asin who is introduced as khurrat,kamini,honhaar one who has a kele aur totapiri aam wali shakal. She belongs to a family of two mamas Akhilendra Mishra ( who still lives in the body of his Chandrakanta character) & Sharat Saxena . The mamas have two saalas one of them is Aarya Babbar. he adds goofiness to his character and avoids getting lost in the crowd. the mamas dont get along and Prem will have to convert this family into a Rajshri family before the film ends. That is Ready for you. Dont ask how the title is connected to the story. I am still trying to figure that out. There is a miniature Satish Kaushik lookalike who is highly irritating.

Ready is the kind of film that works if you are a die hard Salman Khan Fan or if you are able to connect with the humor and the dialogues in the film. I didnt connect with it but enjoyed it in bits and pieces. The guy who plays this character called Lahiri was fun to watch. The film is set in Thailand but not once are you informed about it. Only when you see the signboards and some Thai people do you realize that the entire family stays in Thailand. Most of the scenes look like they were improvised on the set to Salmans satisfaction. In fact I think lots of dialogues were reworked at the dubbing stage.

Final few words: Ready is poor mans Dabangg and Wanted. Mildly entertaining but not half as entertaining as the earlier two. Only for die hard Salman khan fans.

Dhinka Chika Dhinka Chika Dhinka Chika Dhinka Chika Aey Aey Aey Aey! And here I am looking into my good English thesaurus to get the meaning of these so very filmy words. Obviously I cannot find them. They are meaningless, just like the movie BUT works for the Indian public. I do realize that a critical review will be of seldom use, therefore my wisdom says to judge by the fact whether it worked as an entertainer for me or not?

So did READY worked like an EverREADY for me? Rating 3.25/5 (Yes! Partially)

Story
Story is simply senseless and mingling mindless. Sanjana (Asin) has to find a suitable shelter for a couple weeks and enters as a prospect bride in the Kapoor family. This Kapoor family like Bollywood Kapoor family is full of characters - a trio of Ram-Laxman-Bharat Kapoor (played by Mahesh Manjrekar, Manoj Pahwa and Manoj Joshi respectively) along with their jewellery infested wives. We also have Prem in it (Prem who? Hum Aapke Hain Kaun obviously!). The Salman Khan, son of Ram Kapoor in the movie. After the Kapoor family intro, the first half is about how Prem comes to know about Sanjanas reality. The first half contains some mindless comic dialogues (thanks to Sudesh Lehri) and they superbly work for audience.
The second half is the time for Chaudhary family. Any bollywood actor would not like to marry a girl without her parivaar ki marzi (family consent). How can Salman be an exception? So now he will only marry Sanjana once her Don-Uncles are satisfied with the couple. The Don-Uncles are hairy, plotting and look rather comedians than villains. But again, it works (mentioning this phrase thrice now). Rest of the story is about how Prem (Salman) manages to get all things in place and also the Parivaar ki marzi from Sanjanas Don-Family.

Star cast
Salman Khan. Like I mentioned in my review for Dabang, Salman has found that USP in him which will help him to retain the cult status Body looks (takes off clothes in every movie) and being casually funny (a must for paisa-vasool entertainers). Nice and pleasing to see that works. He sells this movie to you. You go to this movie for him.
Asin is watchable to watch and has a chulbul (naughty) presence. Going by the fact that the makers of Ready was looking for an actresses which could bring resemblance to Ready (Tamil version) actresses Genelia D'Souza, Asin was an apt choice. She works. But her make-up disappoints.
Sudesh Lehri he rocks. You can laugh at his professionalism everytime you see him on screen.
Paresh Rawal can be seen trying but his dialogues are a bit weak.
An initial shock was received by me when I saw Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Kangna Ranaut in the movie within first 5-10 minutes. Needless to say they were extras (special appearances).

Music of Ready is THE thing which makes you EVERREADY - Peppy, Tipsy, Chichoora (did I said Chichoora) and Lip-exercising. Songs like Dhinka Chika has pure shades of southern touch. Another song like Character Dheela is written for Salman. And what to say about lyrics:
Ishak ke namm pe karte, sabhi ab raas leela hai
Main karoon toh saala, Character dheela hai
Chichoora is the best adjective.
Go to any disco in New Delhi and the posh people will be dancing on it.

Apart from the music, the situational comedy also works in places. And that is due to high quality of comical artists in Ready. However, the script sometimes tests your tolerance for absurdity and lets you disappoint. Writing scenes where climax has rose fighting, heroine hallucinating and thinking hero taking off his shirt, etc are just not needed.

Salman Khan's Ready is the 3rd remake of the 2008 Telegu blockbuster. It has been remade successfully in 2009 in Kannada & in 2010 in Tamil. Does the Hindi remake with the same name as the original, match up?

The plot is simple, stupid and as filmy as the 80s. Intro of Hero. Song. Boy meets girl, boy hates girl. Song. Boy finds truth about girl, boy loves girl. Song. Evil looking villains with a sense of humour arrive. Action. They take girl away. Boy decides to get girl back. Boy plots along with his large family (thanks to the Barjatyas). Song. Boys almost succeeds, villains discover truth. Big fight. Bigger fight. In the end, all is well. Song.

Having revealed the entire plot to you, I think Ready has 2 directors. The first half has to be directed by Anees Bazmee (No Problem, Thank You), and I think Salman Khan took over the second half, by ensuring that the director stick to the original. By the interval you feel that the humour besides relying heavily on slapstick is rather pedestrian. Leaving you wondering that if the second half continues in the same fashion, this is not going to be as good as Wanted or Dabangg. But Salman Khan never ceases to surprise you. Post interval, the film is a nonstop laugh a riot. You will laugh at the outrageousness of the characters, the silliness of the situation, you will even laugh at a badly behaved school kid being punished in an amusement park or the mother (Eva Grover) abusing the father in law using the namesake son as a pretext.

The film has a huge cast and all provide equal humour and support to the film. Mahesh Manjrekar, Manoj Pahwa, Manohar Joshi as the 3 Kapoors are brilliant. Anuradha Patel, seen after a long time is beautiful and class personified in the film.

The warring gangster clan Choudharys, epitomizes the villains from the south of the Vindhyas in recent times. All have garish outfits, long, unkempt hair with funny ponies and they all lack class. Akhilendra Mishra (Lagaan, Chandrakanta the famous TV series, Do Dooni Chaar) & Sharat Saxena (Boxer, Ghulam) as the 2 respective patriarchs are hilarious and fun to have on screen. Arya Babbar seems out of place somehow. Nikiten Dheer (Jodhaa Akbar, Mission Istanbul) is an underrated actor, who should get his due post Ready.

Asin definitely is making tremendous efforts to look worse than the maids in the film. If this is how she is planning to make an impact, then she aint making anyneither plans nor impact. Zarine Khan looks far more glamourous in her cameo.

Paresh Rawal, once again proves that irrespective of screen time, he can steal the show anytime. Although, his character is introduced post interval, he is the best of the lot.

That brings us back to the main reason, why Ready was made and why we all want to see it. SALMAN KHAN. He is currently riding a fantastic wave wherein he has rediscovered the formula, once mastered by Jeetendra in the 80s. Remaking successful South Indian flicks and sticking to the original in content by just adding a few Bollywood touches here and there. So you dont see him wearing yellow pants or purple blazers here. From the word go, the film relies on Salmans charisma to entertain you and he doesnt let you down one bit. The effortlessness via which he takes the relatively back seat post interval and let Paresh do the talking shows once again how comfortable he is. The self depreciating humour, be it Salman's weighty issues or the marriage counselor's personal marital woes, is fantastic.For Salman Khan fans, this is a sure laugh a riot. Coupled with the 2 dance tracks Dhinka Chika & Character Dheela this film, might not be liked by the purists of cinema, but then, it was not made for them either.

Ready is a film made out of pure inspiration, and - confidence that Kashyaps' Dabangg assured. An out and out Salman Khan entertainer, he plays an upscale brat with dialogue quite contrasting. He is a manipulative hearthrob - Prem - and a good one at that. He's got a family who see their lives with rose-tinted glasses. The chacha who's got affairs, the Dad who has momentary amnesia ... and the like. They live in a massive ocean-like bungalow, and for amusement - throw each other inside the pool, with cellphones, and cash intact.

They are expecting a potential bride from America for the unemployed, live-life-on-edge Prem, who goes to pick up the girl at the airport, an in an hilarious error gets the wrong woman home (Asin). Now the significant half of the film centers on how the warring families of Asin's two mama collide and make-up, with Sallu's Prem playing being the scheming catalyst of comfort.

By the nature of this unimaginative script, the film doesn't show spark at first. But what gleams up the retiring story are the characters - though stereotypes - clearly defined, and some - for instance Salman Khan's Prem Kapoor - cleverly formatted.

He is so much at ease even when there's hell breaking loose , you cannot evade the composed charm. An instantly likable persona, effortlessly shouldered by Salman Khan, even when Ready's at its most absurd shot, it doesn't get annoying like the terrible two sequels of Golmaal.

For much part to evoke humor, scenes that warrantied it are cleverly thrown into the film, as at times it mocks its own establishment, (like the scene where Asins' hanging by the tree, whereas death still seems distant from the valley) or borrows archetypal instances from other films and develops a cool satire.

It is the gibberish dialogue that leave us chuckling hard that should be lauded. Salman, obviously gets most of the punch-lines to deliver, but Asin's Sanjana doesn't lag behind. She is level-headed, cunning, and cannot be easily mislead. Her gangster mama's don hat that's meek even when they are at their most aggressive.

There's such a friendly vibe, you feel foolish as you enjoy the unfolding, heavily unrealistic premise, but then hey, you do enjoy.

Anees Bazmee's got a condition. Or rather Akshay Kumars' got some. When they team up, you hate the pairing and the unforgivable attempts they give to arouse laughter. With Salman, its his presence that dramatically differentiates him for others.

Even when he mouths lines like , "Aisa ghumaoonga...ki...google.com bhi dhoond nahi paayega". You don't frown. Or make a face. You guffaw.

And thats' where Ready scores as a winner. In its unabashed, uninhibited, sometimes moronic- mostly shameless humor. The setting is quite not clear. We assume, India, but Thai women mysteriously make their presence felt. Bangkok, then.

Anees Bazmee, even after deadly criticism doesn't compromise on being grossly and insanely entertaining. He tries to involve a subtle message of living peacefully...respecting elders...blah...blah..blah... . which if not effective, is praise-worthy.

The film's essential character is a recycled yet contemporary, (and Rawdier) version of Dabanggs' immensely enjoyable Chulbul Pandey. And even when he's just a drag, he amuses.

I recommend this picture for the man who doesn't hide behind an autistic mask to gain sympathy or play an over-insolent collegian to inspire. He is himself, and he sets the turnstiles on fire when he is what he is.

Sometimes, thats the most impossible thing to be.

Internal bias: Salman Khan can do no wrong

The only way to enjoy Ready is to watch it without a Dabanng hangover. You have to simply surrender to the Salman charm and let him take you though a nonsensical story line, corny dialogues, his trademark romancing style, his crazy dance moves and smile indulgently at the man.

The story, whatever there is, is about a girl with two warring goons for uncles who want her to marry their relatives for her fortune. Enter Salman whose home she gatecrashes who brings the two families together through some madcap manoeuvrings. The story is too convoluted to get into and frankly not necessary at all. Enough to let you know that it all moves along at a pretty good speed and keeps you entertained before ending in smiles for everyone with a very 70s family drama feel to it.

Asin is sprightly and spirited but looks very ordinary. Salmans girl has to be a bit more glamorous to share the screen with him. The rest of the cast serve as able props to Salmans Prem.

There are four songs and expect for Dhinka chika which has a tapori feel and will be used well for Ganesh visarjan dancing the rest fall flat including Character dheela hai which is being shoved down our throats by every radio channel.

I did not enjoy the first half of the movie since I was still comparing it to Wanted and Dabanng but by the second half I was laughing helplessly at everything-the dialogues, the fights, the improbable situations. Salman does that to me. A must watch for Salman fans, for the rest of you without the rose tinted glasses it may be a bit too much.
