Black Swan
Swooning over this Swan 4.0/5

For me, Darren Aronofsky holds a cent per cent track record. I havent seen The Wrestler but I am sure it wont disappoint. The last Aronofsky film I saw was The Fountain and recently I re-watched Pi. Ok, moving on to this film.

Black swan is about Nina (Natalie Portman) a ballet dancer who is chosen to play the lead in Swan Lake. How a girl perfect for the role of the white swan loses it trying to fit in as the black swan is what this film is about.

Nails being clipped by scissors, a quill being removed from the back, scratching of the back, shots like these complimented by sounds which will raise your blood pressure is the hallmark of this film. Aronofsky suffocates you as a viewer with the chaos in Ninas head and Natalie Portman lives the role of her lifetime. The Oscar is well deserved. The character she plays and her personality which comes across off screen is so similar. Here she tries to break her mould as an actor and succeeds in doing that. At times certain scenes work like a horror film.

This is another film which leads you question and debate about certain things like Ninas relationship with her mother. Mila Kunis stands out even though the film belongs to Natalie. Be warned that there is an entire make out scene between Mila & Natalie which is cut out from the film. Lagta hai the sexual energy was too much to handle for the censors. Written by two first time writers & another who is one film old, the script is highly engaging and demands your full attention.

Final few words: Black Swan raises blood pressures and if a kid happens to see it he/she will swear never to join a ballet class.

Rating : **** (very good)

Ticket Meter : Worth any amount.
